You're Invited! Introduction to Collaborative Problem Solving for Parents & Caregivers

Posted Date: 05/21/26 (07:00 AM)

Who We Are

At Think:Kids at Massachusetts General Hospital (ThinkKids.org), we transform the lives of kids and adults by spreading a more accurate and empathic view of children with challenging behavior. We do this by teaching adults Collaborative Problem Solving® (CPS), a trauma-informed and evidence-based approach that helps kids and adults meet expectations, reduce concerning behavior, solve problems, build skills, and strengthen relationships with others. Together, we can rethink how we understand kids with behavioral challenges and create a world where everyone recognizes that behavior is a matter of skill, not a matter of will.

Course Description

The Introduction to Collaborative Problem Solving course introduces the basic principles of Collaborative Problem Solving. Through lectures, question-and-answer, and large and small group discussions, participants learn a more empathic and accurate understanding of what causes unmet expectations and concerning behavior, and are exposed to an overview of the three key components of the approach.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Recognize situations where Lagging Thinking Skills can lead to Undesired Behaviors.

  • Tell the difference between the three options in the Collaborative Problem Solving approach to respond to challenging situations.
